DESCRIPTION:Beethoven’s third piano concerto\, like his 5th symphony\,  is in C minor and is likewise full of drama and contrast. \nAlexia Daphne Eleftheriadou is a Greek pianist based in London. She has appeared as a soloist at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall\, Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh\, and the Greek National Opera recital hall in Athens. In May 2021 she made her debut with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra recording Beethoven’s 3rd Piano Concerto. \nCantus Arcticus\, also known as Concerto for Birds and Orchestra\, is a three-part orchestral work by the Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavarra premiered 18 October 1972. It is writen for live orchestra and tape recordings of birdsong creating a stunning evocation of the Finnish landscape. \nCarl Nielsen has been described as “one of the most playful\, life-affirming\, and awkward voices in twentieth-century music” \nHis  Symphony No. 4\, The Inextinguishable (Op. 29\, 1914–16)\, written during World War I. \nIt is writen as a continuous piece with the traditional four “movements” emerging as it unfolds. Nielsen\, described the symphony as “the life force\, the unquenchable will to live”.

DESCRIPTION:On Christmas Day we gather with joy to celebrate the birth of Jesus.\nJoin us at 10.30am on Christmas morning for the Cathedral Eucharist as we combine the Holy Communion with Christmas carols and time for reflection and celebration.\nA welcoming\, full Eucharistic service sung by our Cathedral Choir during term time and by visiting choirs during the holidays. DESCRIPTION:Born in 1886\, Rachel Kay-Shuttleworth defied the expectations of her class and era instead of choosing a conventional path\, she chose one of purpose – building spaces of learning\, dignity and community. The Gawthorpe Textiles Collection\, which she began and nurtured throughout her life\, is now one of the most significant of its kind in the UK. \n12:00 pm – 3:00 pm \nShe was a founding force in the Girl Guide movement in Lancashire and a tireless advocate for women’s education and opportunity. Jane Hellebrand started her research in 2012 while volunteering at Gawthorpe and her work on the biography gained pace during lockdown. \nThe title ‘Undaunted’ takes its name from a pair of engraved needlework scissors gifted to her in 1933 when she opened an Unemployed Women’s Club in Burnley.
