SUMMARY:Gong Bath with Gong Within
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the meditative power of gong sounds\, go within and connect with yourself. \nSo what’s it all about? \nEverything you need to know about the Gong Within sound bath experience please read all of this section before booking \nSound baths are so called because participants are lying down\, immersed in sound. The sounds wash over you\, inducing a meditative\, relaxed state (there is no water involved). The effect is difficult to describe\, you really need to experience it to appreciate it’s depths. If you’re new to sound therapy it is important you read all of this information before booking. \nI mainly use gongs\, with some other instruments such as chimes\, singing bowls\, seed shakers\, and perhaps even an occasional drum. The thing I love most about sound therapy is how inclusive it is; anyone can join\, barring a few contra indications described below. Participants don’t need any special skills\, you don’t need to be good at anything or to look good in Lycra. \nYou won’t be asked to do anything or be involved in group work. You simply need to come in\, lie down\, get comfortable and let the sounds work their magic. That’s all. \nSound therapy is accessible for most people; however there are a few contra indications. If you have a pacemaker you should not attend as the sound vibrations can affect its rhythm. Some people with tinnitus can find sound baths uncomfortable; it is wise to ensure you do not lie close to the gongs\, however I have a regular participant with (mild) tinnitus who keeps returning and loves what she gets from sessions. Sound baths do not make tinnitus better or worse. \nPeople who wear hearing aids might wish to remove them. \nBe aware your body temperature can drop during a sound bath\, so it is important you are wearing warm\, comfortable clothing\, ideally including socks. I carry spare roll mats & blankets for anyone who doesn’t have them or who forgets to bring one. However I recommend you bring your own as being comfortable is key to the quality of your experience and there may not be enough spares. \nIn terms of mobility\, you need to be able to lie down & get up from the floor\, however if you have mobility issues and a willing helper you are welcome to bring anything you need to be able to lie down or sit comfortably and safely. I have known people use a zero gravity chair or inflatable mattress. \nIf you prefer to sit up during sessions please make sure you are safe and able to relax. Please arrive in time to get yourself settled in.Be aware that late comers will not be able to join. Sound therapy is an immersive experience so when the session is underway it is important there are no disturbances. no one will be able to walk into the session once it has started so please arrive promptly. \nThe sessions last for approximately one hour and are suitable for all ages\, except for young children. I have hosted sessions for all ages\, from 13-83. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. \nSo… ask yourself… what have you got to lose? \nLocation\nThe Bureau Centre for the Arts\, Blackburn\, BB17JN

SUMMARY:Troubled Waters Storytelling Performance
DESCRIPTION:Leaping salmon\, fishtail women\, mythical raves and sacred springs: contemporary retellings of ancient river legend\, folklore and myth. \nWith over 4\,000 miles of polluted waterways\, Britain and Ireland’s rivers are in ruin.\nThis vibrant new tapestry of transporting tales winds through stories that have shaped our relationship with rivers\, the lifeblood of our landscape.\nLeaping salmon\, fishtail women\, mythical raves & sacred springs… These enchanting and surprising tales present characters who question what is set in stone and find their own flow.\nWith each meandering stream and rushing river\, we dip our toes into vital waters and ask what new connections are found when we look with fresh eyes beneath the surface?\nCreated & performed by Corinne Harragin \nPress Reviews:\n‘Genuinely very funny’\n‘A masterful storyteller’ \n\nBackstage Bristol (link to full review)\n\nAudience praise for Troubled Waters:\n“Delicious\, captivating\, funny\, sexy\, and brilliant!”\n“Beautifully told tales – none of which I’d heard before”\n“Mesmerising and sensual – the stories came to life”\n“Corinne kept her audience captivated.”\n“Cheeky\, moving\, and well-paced”\n“A beautiful journey that blends traditional storytelling with modern language”\n“The weaving and patterning of stories was expertly done”\n“The perfect balance of funny\, political and beautiful” Laurel Molly\n“Mesmerising physicality\, down-to-earth playfulness and mischievous spirit”\n“Superb choice of story” \n“Rivers sustain the natural environment\, wildlife and people in equal measure. People have to feel part of something to feel motivated to care for it – Troubled Waters is an impressive production that will inspire people to re-establish their connection with our rivers\, helping to protect them. As a trust\, our mission is to see 1 in 4 people taking action for nature\, and this production is a brilliant example of people taking action for nature”  – Avon Wildlife Trust \nTouring UK as a storyteller for the last 10 years\, Corinne uses physicality and humour to reanimate the written-down-ness of story with her own brand of oral performance. Finding pockets of enchanted forest within the hinterland of contemporary urban sprawl\, she tells stories that recentre marginalised voices and silenced histories\, bringing fresh questions to ancient myths and folk tales for adult audiences. Corinne is a regular guest performer for the touring ‘myth-off’ game show\, Story Jam’s ‘Women Who Gave F*cks’. \nAs a research associate at the University of Bristol\, her current project Storying the Avon (funded by the Brigstow Institute) explores connection to water through storytelling. She also designs and delivers storytelling and presentation skills training for the universities of Bristol and Gloucestershire. SUMMARY:An Exhibition of Townscape Paintings
DESCRIPTION:“I paint local urban landscapes creating multimedia pictures of bridges\, roads\, canals\, industrial buildings\, rooftops\, traffic\, street signs and building sites\, especially building sites. Buildings tend to interest me more as subject matter when they are being constructed or demolished. I want to find beauty in the mundane something fresh and engaging in the everyday life of towns and cities. \nThe paintings in this exhibition are created using different media from traditional oil on canvas to acrylic paint\, ball point pen and spray paint. Many of the works are also made up of complex layers of collage and paint. Over time\, I have obsessively collected materials such as cigarette cards\, magazine articles\, tickets\, old tax discs\, maps\, pattern books and stamps\, the flotsam and jetsam of everyday life\, and although I try to be objective with my subject matter\, the collage hidden beneath the surface is loaded with nostalgia. Items that have their own history sitting beneath the paint and occasionally revealed to create an interaction between the past and present. \nAll of my paintings are made to be viewed at normal viewing distance and then close up to fully experience how they are constructed.” \nThe Bureau Centre for the Arts \nOpen: Thursdays 10.30am\, \nFridays 10.30am – 9pm \nSaturdays 10.30am – 4pm
