Services and ceremonies will be held across Blackburn with Darwen to commemorate Remembrance Day and Remembrance Sunday, honouring those who have served and fallen in past and present conflicts.

Remembrance Day is always observed on 11 November, marking the Armistice that ended the First World War at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
This year, that date falls on Tuesday 11 November 2025, with Remembrance Sunday taking place on Sunday 9 November.
Residents are invited to join the Royal British Legion and Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council at a series of events across the borough.
The Mayor’s Remembrance Concert
Thursday 6 November 2025 – 6.30pm
Blackburn Cathedral
School children from across the borough, the Salvation Army Band and local cadets will come together for an evening of words and music.

Darwen Remembrance Service
Saturday 8 November 2025 – 11am
Darwen Market Square
A short service will take place outside Darwen Town Hall, followed by wreath laying at the Boer War Memorial, Belgrave Square.
Remembrance Sunday Services – 9 November 2025
Blackburn Cathedral – 9.30am
A United Service of Remembrance will be held, followed by a parade forming on King William Street at 10.25am and moving to the Corporation Park Gardens of Remembrance for a wreath laying ceremony.
A free bus will depart from Blackburn Cathedral at 10.20am.
St Peter’s Church, Darwen – 9am
United Service of Remembrance followed by wreath laying at the War Memorial, Bold Venture Park, at 10.45am.
A free bus will depart from Darwen Bus Station at 10.30am.
Remembrance Day – Tuesday 11 November 2025
Blackburn Town Hall and Darwen Town Hall – 11am
A two-minute silence will be observed outside both Blackburn and Darwen Town Halls to honour all those who have given their lives in service to their country.
Cllr Phil Riley, Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council, said:
“It’s important that we join together on Remembrance Day to pay our respects to those who have served in the armed forces.
It’s a time to reflect and remember those who have put their lives at risk and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
These Remembrance events will give our communities the chance to come together and mark the occasion.”
