The event will run from sunrise, around 4.35am, to sunset, around 9.45pm, with walkers taking on the challenge to raise funds and awareness for mental health support in Blackburn and across Lancashire.
Although registrations for the full challenge have closed, Lancashire Mind is still inviting people to turn up at any time during the day and walk whatever distance they can.
Funds raised will go to Lancashire Mind and nine other local charities, including the Mayor’s chosen charity, Nightsafe. The Mayor will be there on the day, while the Deputy Mayor plans to take part in some of the walking.
Councillor Phil Riley, Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council, said: “This is a fantastic event raising awareness and money for important causes alongside the physical and mental health benefits for those taking part.
“I am proud to support this event taking place in Blackburn’s Witton Park which encourages movement, connection and community spirit. I send well wishes to all those taking on their own personal challenges as part of this event.”
Andrea Pollard, Fundraising Lead at Lancashire Mind, said: “This is a truly special event and are pleased to be raising funds for nine very important charities. Working together in this way will give us a stronger voice to continue to support the communities we serve. We can’t wait for Monday and are keeping everything crossed for fair weather.”
People are being encouraged to drop in, walk alongside those taking on the 17-plus-hour challenge, use the day for a catch-up with friends, family or colleagues, or simply get their daily 10,000 steps in a different setting.
