The K’s to open Blackburn’s newly revamped King George’s Hall

The K’s are set to headline the grand reopening of Blackburn’s King George’s Hall, as the historic venue prepares to welcome audiences back after a £13.5m transformation.

The indie-rock band will play a special gig on Saturday, September 26, with tickets due to go on sale at 10am on Friday, August 7.

The Hall will be the first band venue after the major refurbishment, which the article says is the most significant investment since it first opened more than a century ago. The event will also support local homelessness charity Nightsafe.

The K’s said: “We’re buzzing to be part of such a special night.

“King George’s Hall has an incredible history and it’s a real honour to be the first band back on stage after its transformation.

“We can’t wait to see everyone in Blackburn and help kick off this exciting new chapter for the venue.”

The band released their second studio album, Pretty On The Internet, in July 2025. Their debut album, I Wonder If The World Knows?, helped fuel sold-out UK tours and saw them pick up Best Breakthrough Act at the 2024 Nordoff Robbins Northern Music Awards.

Councillor Phil Riley, Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council, said: “We’re hugely excited to be announcing that The K’s will headline the grand reopening of King George’s Hall this September.

“For more than a century, it’s been an iconic entertainment venue, attracting performers of the very highest calibre.

“From Queen to The Beatles, David Bowie, and more recently Liam Gallagher and Florence + The Machine, they’ve all graced its stage – and now, following a significant programme of investment, we’re thrilled to be looking ahead to the next chapter in its story and welcoming The K’s – one of the UK’s most exciting indie-rock bands.”

King George’s Hall, which first opened in 1921 and is Grade II listed, has had extensive refurbishment inside and out, including upgraded bars, improved seating, new lifts, lighting and bathrooms.

A new ‘The King is Back!’ campaign has also launched, with a new look for the venue’s brand and a programme that includes names such as Paul Smith, Tim Peake and Gabrielle.
