Luxmuralis space show set for Blackburn Cathedral return in February

Blackburn Cathedral will be turned into an immersive light and sound show again next year, with Luxmuralis bringing its new installation SPACE to the town from Monday 15 February to Saturday 20 February 2027.

The event will transform the whole cathedral into a large-scale artwork themed around the cosmos, using projected visuals and soundscapes to take visitors from the Big Bang through the creation of galaxies, planets and stars.

It marks a return for Luxmuralis after TIME was staged at Blackburn Cathedral in 2026 during the building’s centenary celebrations.

The Revd Canon Andrew Horsfall, Interim Dean of Blackburn, said the earlier installation had been a special moment not just for the cathedral but for the wider region, and said he was looking forward to welcoming people back in early 2027.

Luxmuralis is the artistic collaboration between sculptor Peter Walker and composer David Harper, known for large-scale immersive light and sound installations in cathedrals and historic venues in the UK and abroad.

Their work has appeared at places including St Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, Chatsworth House, St Pauls Minneapolis, Limburg Dom, Oxford City museums and other UK cathedrals.
