Musical Performances to look forward to at this year’s National Festival of Making

The National Festival of Making 2023 is set to wow visitors with an array of captivating music and performance events this weekend. From vibrant dance performances to lively drumming ensembles, there is something for everyone to enjoy.  

One of the highlights of the festival is ‘Mughal Miniatures: Animal Paradise’,  an outdoor performance event that draws inspiration from the traditional art of Indian and Persian miniature painting. Performers dressed in costumes will create vibrant and colourful mini worlds for audiences through dance, music, and puppetry, inviting visitors to explore the relationship between humans, animals, and the natural world. 

Other highlights of the weekend include. 

  • Do What Yah Mama Told Yah | Cathedral Square | Saturday 1pm  

An exuberant and laughter-filled show by Just More Productions.  

 

  • Greater Northern Folk Ensemble| Cathedral Square | Saturday All Day  

This mixed-age ensemble, led by Sorrel Harty, delivers captivating performances with a mixture of instruments.  

 

  • Eternal Taal | King William Street | Sunday 12:45 pm, 4:15 pm 

A spectacular display of Bhangra dancing and drumming by the all-female team, Eternal Taal. They have over 20 years of experience and performances at renowned events like Glastonbury Festival and The Queen’s Jubilee.  

 

  • Blackburn & Darwen Junior Band | King William Street | Sunday 11am  

This talented group of young musicians, supported by experienced adults, will showcase popular hits from pop, film, and folk music genres. 

 

  • Suco Samba | Cathedral Square | Sunday 12pm 

Suco Samba, a Burnley-based drumming group bringing the spirit of carnival and Brazilian music to life in Blackburn. 

 

  • Vocalise | Cathedral Square | 2pm 

A choir of young voices aged 7 to 14 from Blackburn and Darwen. Their repertoire includes a range of songs, from pop hits to specially written pieces for children’s singing groups.
