Former Electric Church to Be Transformed into Chaii Tea Café

Introduction

A former live music venue in Blackburn town centre is set for a new lease of life – as a new Chaii tea café.

Read all about it

The building at 79 Northgate, previously home to the Electric Church and Live Lounge, will be converted into a café serving Karak Chaii and light snacks, with office space on the first floor. The plans, submitted by Aya Services Ltd, have now been approved by Blackburn with Darwen Council.

Located within the Northgate Conservation Area, the venue’s original timber shopfront will be retained and repaired as part of the scheme, maintaining the building’s character while making it suitable for its new use.

This change reflects a growing trend in Blackburn town centre, where several former retail and nightlife premises have been repurposed for coffee shops, cafés and takeaways.

What do you think of the plans? Is this the kind of change you’d like to see in the town centre? Let us know in the comments.
