Smetana The Bartered Bride: Overture (7)
Mendelssohn Violin Concerto (26)
Brahms Symphony No.4 (42)
We open the new season with a much-anticipated return from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of the fast-rising young British conductor, Gabriella Teychenné.

Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto has been described as ‘the dearest, the heart’s jewel’ of the 19th-century German concertos for the instrument. It’s performed by young American violinist, Aubree Oliverson, who has been praised for her evocative lyricism and joyful, genuine approach. Brahms’s last symphony, his fourth, demonstrates a master wholly in command of his craft. The music critic Eduard Hanslick, commented: ‘It is rather like a deep well, the longer we look into it, the more brightly the stars shine back.’ Smetana’s energetic and virtuosic overture to his opera The Bartered Bride brings a brilliantly celebratory start to the season.
