A Boost for Blackburn Market as a Bumper Range of New Stalls Open

A surge in new stalls opening in Blackburn Market and an increase in new trader enquiries is giving the town’s market extra choice and value for local shoppers.

The market has welcomed a range of new stalls, including a cheese stall, vegan delicatessen, salad bar, home furnishings and a bathroom showroom. The new stalls join a group of more recent arrivals in the market, including a Korean takeaway, bespoke home furnishings, hairdresser and perfumier.

The market has recently also trialled pop-up stalls and offered low cost stalls to enable people to test a business idea as part of the Love Your Local Market campaign.

The Cheese Stall, opened by Lynette Varey, is offering a tantalising range of fabulous cheeses from around the world. From your choice of classic local favourites like crumbly, creamy or tasty Lancashire through to Roquefort. Lynette is already well known for the famous Bacon Stall on the market and judging from the response of customers, it won’t be long before the Cheese Stall is famous too!

The Vegan Deli, a first for Blackburn, is committed to providing a wide range of freshly cooked savoury meals right through to “taste bud tingling” sweet treats.

Beverly and David Ormerod, who own the stall, said: “The menu will be changing each week, but staples will include burgers, sausages, sausage roll, samosas, pies and lasagne with brownies and rocky road for a tasty treat. We even have a range of natural vegan drinks.”

Diced”, another new concept for the town, gives you the choice tasty ready-made salad bowls or the option to build your own and watching the contents being chopped freshly with your choice of fabulous dressings. You can make it as healthy and tasty as you want. Lunchtimes will never be the same again!

V K Homeware, who have opened a stall near the Ainsworth Street entrance of the market, right next to the bus station, offer range of home furnishing items from luxury items for the bedroom and bathroom to beautiful curtains and cushions. You can choose from duvet sets, fitted bed sheets, pillows (including memory foam, v-shape, bolsters, anti-snore), valance sheets, flannelette. Add a touch of luxury with coordinated items for your bathroom from towels to bathmats. This also means that the market has two extensive home furnishing stalls, giving customers an even wider choice.

Councillor Phil Riley, Blackburn with Darwen Council’s Executive Member for Growth and Development, said: “This is fantastic news for the market and I’d like to welcome all of the new traders and wish them the very best.

“The market has always been at the very heart of the town in Blackburn and it’s great to see new stalls joining – offering more variety for our shoppers.

“We’re constantly trialling new ways to attract businesses to the busy market and the pop-up stalls have worked really well.

“I’d encourage residents to nip in and have a look for themselves – supporting our local businesses.”

Blackburn Market are encouraging people to make a trip to the market to discover and support these new independent traders that are bringing vibrancy and choice to the shopping experience in Blackburn.

The market, which has seen an increase in stall enquiries, is happy to talk to anyone who wants to open a stall or look at shorter term options, including pop-up stalls. The team at the market are happy to meet potential traders and give them tours of the market to discuss options. People interested in opening a stall are asked to email info@blackburnmarket.com
