Blackburn to host Superstar Pianists at Ribble Valley International Piano Week

A whole host of world-famous pianists will have an unprecedented opportunity to perform on the new generation flagship Yamaha CFX piano, amongst the very first ever public concerts to be given on this brand new instrument, which was unveiled last month in a private concert streamed online from the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre, London.

Between 13th – 16th July 2022, Martin Roscoe, Steven Osborne and Alim Biesembeyev (2021 Leeds piano competition winner) are set to perform in evening recitals during the Ribble Valley International Piano Week (RVIPW) at Westholme School, Meins Road, Blackburn. Young “rising stars” from all around the globe will also be performing at mid-day concerts too – Giulia Contaldo, Victor Braojos and Karnsiri Prim Laothamas join the roster of lucky pianists playing this all-new instrument on 14th, 15th and 16th July.

Artistic Director Martin Roscoe says – “Yamaha have supported RVIPW for many years and we are particularly delighted that this year they are giving us the opportunity to present their all-new piano – I am looking forward to putting it through its paces in my recitals with my Trio (the Martin Roscoe Trio) on 13th July, and again in my solo recital the following night”.

RVIPW Chair and piano technician Marianne Bailey said “As festival Chair, it’s absolutely fantastic for us that Yamaha are sending us their brand-new instrument. What a coup for us to be holding some of the very first public concerts it has ever been used for in the UK! And what a great opportunity for people to come and hear it for themselves for the very first time in the intimate setting of Westholme School’s theatre. As the resident RVIPW piano technician I am thrilled to be working on this instrument, exploring for myself under the lid what Yamaha have achieved – the culmination of many years of research and by all accounts reaching the pinnacle of piano design. I will be presenting a pre-concert talk during the festival where I will share what I find with our audience which will be fascinating.”

All concerts take place in the easily accessible Croston Theatre at Westholme School, Meins Rd, Blackburn BB2 6QU.

Dates: 13 – 16 July 2022
