Closures for Shops, Venues and Council Services for the Queen’s Funeral

As we approach Monday 19th September 2022, Blackburn Life have summarised details of everything we know so far about the changes to business hours and opening for a whole range of local shops, venues and leisure attractions in the area.

Shops

Most larger shops and supermarkets will be closed with Asda being the only exception that will reopen their stores at 5pm.
The traders on Blackburn Market voted to close for the day as a mark of respect.

Other national retailers have announced they will be closing including Currys, Argos, Next, B&Q, Holland & Barrett, Homebase, Ikea, Jack Wills, Game, Sports Direct, Pets at Home, Primark, Wilko, Specsavers and H&M.

Blackburn CathedralClosed All Day and will reopen as usual on Tuesday when Books of Condolence will be available until 5:30pm

Vue Cinema BlackburnOpen for Free screening of the Funeral from 10am. Reserve places on their website. No other events.

Planet IceOnly open for Ice Hockey Basics session at 8:15pm

Bin CollectionsWill continue as normal, but will pause for the State Funeral
Household Waste Recycling CentresThese sites will be open on bank holiday Monday, although will close during the Queen’s State Funeral as a mark of respect
Education & Children’s CentresAll schools, colleges and children’s centres will be closed for the day on Monday 19 September
RegistrarsAvailable on-call
Funerals & CremationsServices already scheduled at Pleasington Cemetery and Crematorium will go ahead as planned, in consultation with families
Adult Social CareOperating as normal
