Could you help bring The Exchange back to life?

Would you like to be involved in creating a legacy and discovering more about the heritage of an iconic building in Blackburn Town Centre?

Thanks to National Lottery Heritage Funding, The Exchange now have a Volunteer and Heritage Coordinator, Lisa Clarke who is ready to recruit and train the first cohort of volunteers. Lisa’s looking for people of all ages and backgrounds with a diverse range of skills to fulfil the following roles:

  • History Detectives

Follow your passion for local history and have fun following clues, digging and collecting ”evidence” whilst discovering untold stories. Help us find out more about The Exchange and pull together a new archive on this important building.

  • Welcome Hosts

You will need to be sociable, approachable, flexible and willing to be part of a new team. You will be practical, up for a challenge and ideally, a sense of humour. These important roles will help us make sure that The Exchange  is open more and plans for future uses will be thoroughly tested.

  • Tour Guides

You will be a great communicator, who loves storytelling and be able to bring to life the fascinating history of The Exchange as it unfolds through the stories, characters and events discovered by the researchers.

  • Researchers & Data Handlers

With a great interest in people and local history, you will able to listen well and be willing to be trained to gather, record data and stories. You will enjoy organising and compiling files in a recordable format for the archives.

  • Media Makers

We are looking for volunteers who are skilled in digital outputs including film, photography, design and marketing to creatively display and share our findings in innovative and creative ways.

Lisa Clarke, Volunteer and Heritage Coordinator for The Exchange explains:

‘Since we bought the building we have had countless offers of volunteer support but because we didn’t have the resources we were unable to accept help. The money from the National Lottery Heritage Fund means we now have capacity to recruit, train and manage a team of people, create facilities for people to work in and enable them to have a really positive experience as they join us on this amazing journey to bring The Exchange back to life.’

Recruitment dates will take place downstairs at MeeMaws Café @ The Exchange on Saturday 3 June from 12 noon – 2pm and at Blackburn Library on Saturday 10 June from 12 noon – 2pm.
