Local Man Celebrates 30 Years with Tensar!

Tensar is a world-leading manufacturer and provider of ground stabilisation and soil reinforcement solutions, with international offices across the globe – including their head office in Blackburn. This week, Tensar is proud to announce the 30-year anniversary of one of its longest serving employees: Dave Hickey.

Dave started work in 1978 at the Lower Darwen Paper Mill, initially as an Apprentice Maintenance Fitter, leaving in 1988 to gain wider experience of engineering. Which he certainly did…

He joined Tensar on 25 February 1991 as a mechanical engineer and over the next 30 years, he developed his skills and expertise, gaining promotions and new roles to recognise his achievements. After just a few years, he became a Production Manager, and ten years later, he was promoted to Operations Manager of TML & China. After only 18 months in this role, he was recognised and promoted again in March 2012, to Director of Operation for UK and China. The latest stage in this impressive career journey was earlier this month, when Dave became EVP Global Operations and EH Sourcing, on 8 February 2021.

We caught up with Dave as he begins his next decade with Tensar. We asked him what attracted him to Tensar in the first place, and he told us that he had seen early on, that there was fantastic opportunity for career enhancement and progression – and after 30 years, he was clearly right. We also asked:

What do you enjoy about working at Tensar?

“There’s great interaction between the various departments in Tensar, which makes it a great place to work. Everybody is working together to reach the same goal!”

And lastly, we wanted to know:

What was your best moment at Tensar?

“My Tensar highlight was tour guiding HRH Princess Anne around our Russian Factory at its opening in 2014. We now have 4 manufacturing facilities around the world.”

After 30 years, Tensar is proud to have Dave still working with the company – and we wish him many more happy years…
