Martial Arts Club Expands with Sport England Grant

Masters of Martial Arts Academy in Blackburn town centre has been awarded a Sports England ‘Return To Play’ grant. The award of £24,495 from the Community Asset Fund has been given to support the club as it deals with the aftermath of COVID restrictions.

The club, situated above McDonald’s has secured use of a large room adjacent to its current Academy and has just begun to bring it up to the standard of  it’s current training area.

Head Coach Phil Turner says ‘We’re delighted with the money which will help us convert a disused area into a fantastic extra training space. We reopened on the 12th April and still have to socially distance, so it will allow us to offer all students the chance to return to training safely.’

The money will be used towards Phase 1 of the project, which will involve building work, installation of heating and lighting and mats to bring the room into use in by mid May. Phase 2 of the project will involve the development of the facility to include more equipment and a members gym area.

Phil added ‘ We can’t thank Sport England enough for their help. After twelve months of inactivity for a lot of people, it’ll be great to offer students the opportunity to get active again. With the increased capacity, we’ll also be able to cater for new students’.
