A new events and themed pop-up markets area at the heart of Blackburn Market has been named Holme Street. The name comes from a long-lost road that used to connect Ainsworth Street to Railway Road in the town.
The new area, which features a new indoor, urban style street trading area will host a range of events and markets. On the first Friday & Saturday of each month, Holme Street, will host a themed market, starting with a trial Retro & Crafts event this weekend (Friday 6th & Saturday 7th March)
The packed, year-long programme will feature a different theme each month including a gin market, pot & ceramic fair, wedding fair and a veggie / vegan market.
Also, in the market this Friday, is Flashback! Part of the British Textile Biennial, featuring a pop-up record shop and acid house stories from Blackburn’s free party scene in the late 1980s. Visitors are invited to share their memories and bring along photos and flyers from the era to share.
Holme Street will also host additional events throughout the year including the National Festival of Making and the Blackburn Cathedral Flower Festival, both taking place in June.
Returning to the town in 2020 will be the Artisan Markets on Ainsworth Street on the second Saturday of every month. The markets, which were trialled at the end of 2019, were a big hit with a range of food and hand-made craft stalls. They start again on Saturday 14th March.
The team at Blackburn Market hope these new shopping experiences will attract new visitors to the market who can enjoy the existing stalls and incredible choice in the food hall too.
It’s looking like a packed year in Blackburn Market!
