The rain did not deter a group of fundraisers from The Mall Blackburn raising vital cash for a local charity.
Staff and retailers from The Mall Blackburn completed a 22-mile walk from Blackburn to Clitheroe and back to raise funds for East Lancashire Hospice on Sunday 28th July.
The torrential rain didn’t deter the crew, which included friends from Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe, Millie’s Cookies and Thorntons as well as management, security, housekeeping and customer service staff from The Mall.
They were raising money for the shopping centre’s chosen Charity of the Year, East Lancashire Hospice, and were fuelled up with sandwiches from Wellbread and lots of fruit from Scott Stuart in Blackburn Market as well as 150 bottles of water from Wilko.
Organised by Ken Shaxon, who is a member of The Mall’s Security team, the event has been months in the planning and Ken is hoping the final total will top £1000.
He said: “I have really enjoyed organising this event as the East Lancashire Hospice means so much to so many people across the county.
“The day before we set off a few of us spent the day bucket collecting in The Mall as we want to raise as much money as possible.
“Thankfully it didn’t rain for the entire time, although when it did we certainly knew about it, but we all had some great laughs throughout the day! I would like to thank everyone for their support.
Loraine Jones, General Manager at The Mall Blackburn, said: “What an amazing achievement for our staff, as well as friends and colleagues from our retailers and, of course, their children!
“The challenge was tough enough without the weather dealing them a blow on the day and they all deserve a huge pat on the back for pressing ahead and completing the mammoth task!
“Every penny really does count for the East Lancashire Hospice and I am extremely proud of everyone that took part!”
