It’s looking like an “Active August” in Blackburn with The Mall.
The Mall Blackburn, in collaboration with Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council and Blackburn Rovers Community Trust, is set to introduce a new initiative to get people more active.
As part of its line up of summer entertainment the shopping centre will launch the Active August Challenge on Monday 5th August, which has been designed to get everyone moving while having fun.
Shoppers will be given pedometers and an interactive map before being sent on a quest to eight check-points featuring games and activities designed to keep them on their toes.
Weekly prizes are available to top steppers including archery and cricket sets. There will also be sporting style gold, silver and bronze prizes for the three people with the highest overall step counts throughout the initiative.
The gold medallist will be the person who clocks up the most steps and they will win a £500 shopping spree in The Mall. Silver will pick up a six month all inclusive gym membership for Blackburn with Darwen Leisure and bronze will be awarded four free tickets to the Blackburn Rovers vs Millwall match on Saturday 14th September.
Loraine Jones, General Manager at The Mall Blackburn, said: “Our focus for this summer is health and wellbeing for all and Active August is a great way to get families moving and having fun at the same time.
“We have received great support from Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council and Blackburn Rovers Community Trust and I would like to thank them for donating additional prizes.
“With so many fabulous initiatives and services available in our area, getting and staying healthy really is achievable with the correct support.
“It is amazing how quickly steps add up and increasing activity can have a massively positive effect on both mental and physical health. The fabulous prizes on offer are an added incentive as well!”
Cllr Damian Talbot, Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council’s Executive Member for Public Health and Wellbeing, added: “Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council is happy to be supporting The Mall’s Active August campaign.
“Leisure, Health and Wellbeing teams at the Council work really hard to engage more people in healthy and active lifestyles, so this campaign is a natural fit for us.”
