The Blackburn West Healthy Community Partnership Group (HCP) has planted one hundred trees in the grounds of Witton Park to mark National Tree Planting week.
The area where the trees have been planted will be known as Dawsons Delph in memory of their former member Marie Dawson, who sadly died in March this year.
The trees supplied by The Woodland Trust are a variety of native woodland trees including silver birch, oak and beech.
The HCP group, which is run by Blackburn with Darwen Council take part in a variety of health based activities and events aimed at increasing the health and wellbeing of residents.
Councillor Damian Talbot, Executive Member for Culture, Leisure and Young People, said: “This is a lovely and fitting tribute to Marie by her fellow members.
“This thoughtful initiative not only helps improve the park for other visitors but will hopefully help spread the message about what HCP does in keeping people active.”
