Opened in 1889, Bold Venture Park is one of Darwen’s most historic and picturesque green spaces. Nestled in the valley of Bold Venture Brook, it forms a natural link between Darwen town centre and the surrounding countryside of the West Pennine Moors, leading directly towards the landmark Darwen Tower.
The park was the second public park created in Darwen and was built on the site of former stone quarries, traces of which can still be seen in its upper sections. Today, visitors can enjoy ornamental gardens, tree-lined paths, cascading streams, and the popular sculpture trail, which adds an artistic twist to a traditional Victorian park.
For those seeking a longer adventure, Higher Bold Venture Park continues on the opposite side of Manor Road, climbing steadily to meet the open moorland and offering a rewarding route up to Jubilee Tower. Maps and information boards are placed around the park to help visitors explore its intricate network of linked paths.
While some paths are steep and involve steps, many areas of the park can still be accessed via alternative routes, making it suitable for most visitors. Whether you’re enjoying a gentle stroll, setting off on a hike to the moors, or simply relaxing in a peaceful corner, Bold Venture Park is one of Darwen’s most scenic and versatile green spaces.
