Did You Know?

During construction of Roe Lee Park in the early 1920s, workers discovered a carved figure of the Indian goddess Kali, thought to date back to the 15th or 16th century. How it came to be buried there remains a mystery.

Roe Lee Park is a 17-acre community park in Blackburn, opened in 1923 to serve the growing Whalley New Road district. Donated by local mill owners Duckworth and Eddleston, the park has been a much-loved green space for over a century. The surrounding housing estate was designed in the ‘garden city’ style, making the park the focal point of the neighbourhood.

Today, Roe Lee Park offers a mix of leisure facilities and open green space, including modern play areas, sports pitches and woodland walks. It remains a popular spot for families, sports enthusiasts and those seeking a relaxing walk among landscaped parkland.
