November Adventure Walk with Dawn & Jimmie

Sun 26 November, 2023 @ 10:30 am - 2:00 pm

You've missed this event

We will meet up in the Witton Country Park car park in Blackburn BB2 2TP, Main entrance – just off the A674 Preston old road, and turn right as you enter. Adventure Walk cost will be £13 (Reduced or free to members). Please car share as much as possible and let me know if you need a lift or can offer one. The park consists of 480 acres of beautiful woodland and parkland, however we are merely using this as a base to set off on our latest adventure walk, and we continue our usual ‘off piste’ walking which is not frequented by the usual day trippers or Fairy Glen groupies! Setting off along the River Darwen until Butler’s bridge, we follow the Witton Weavers Way for 3 miles on some very minor undulations on well established tracks through some lovely woodland and pastures. Although there are a number of styles, they are well-constructed. After a short break, back on the banks of the Darwen, we start a long but steady climb that will eventually take us to Billinge Wood. On the way we pass the Alfred Wainwright memorial where we have outstanding views across the county. In Billinge wood we take a break from the Witton Weaver’s Way and pass the commemorative plaque to the Blackburn ‘three weekly court’ that was held on the hill in 1429. At this point we have reached the highest point and begin a gradual decent through Red Deplh wood back towards the country park after a glorious 7.5 miles circular walk in total. (Austria peeps this will be such a doddle!) Members please book on via our Gym Catch app and if applicable, pay into Monzo (M3 Free, M2 £8 and M1 £10) Not a NWwD member? Please book on with me by text email or whatsapp and then click going on this event page. (Members can you click going on here too please?) Also, let me know if you will be joining us for a meal after the walk so you can be included in the reservation and as usual, let me have your food choice. We plan on eating at the Nabs Head on our way home. http://thenewnabshead.co.uk Been there several times and always delighted with the food and the service. Do hope you can join us x https://www.facebook.com/events/841517874312869/
