It’s Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow for Mum and Daughter Duo!

For some it would be a hair-raising experience, but Becky Barton and her daughter Katy Barton, both from Darwen, are not daunted at the prospect of losing their hair to raise funds for charity.

Becky, the Cleaning Supervisor at Blackburn Market, and her daughter Katy are having their heads shaved to raise money for Dementia UK. The charity provides specialist support for families facing dementia and operate the Admiral Nurse scheme.

They were inspired to raise funds for the charity after losing Becky’s grandfather, Clifford Cunliffe, nearly three years ago after a long battle with dementia.

Becky told us: “We both wanted to do something positive to support people living with Dementia after losing my grandfather to the disease and we have been overwhelmed with the support so far. We’ve already received donations and sponsorship of over £1000.
“A work colleague has volunteered to shave our heads and Katy is just hoping enough will have grown back before she starts college again in September.
“It would be great if people can come along on the day to support us.”

People wanting to donate to the fundraising effort can visit the Blackburn Market Facebook page facebook.com/blackburnmarket/ or bring donations to the event.

If you would like to see this plucky duo have their heads shaved for a great cause, come to Blackburn Market on Saturday 3rd August at 12 noon.

Dementia UK is a registered charity and the Admiral Nurses provide the specialist dementia support that families need. When things get challenging or difficult, their nurses work alongside the entire family, giving them one-to-one support, expert guidance and practical solutions.

The unique dementia expertise and experience an Admiral Nurse brings is a lifeline – it helps families to live more positively with dementia in the present, and to face the challenges of tomorrow with more confidence and less fear.
