Blackburn with Darwen Council has issued a statement following rumours circulating online regarding the Islington Hotel in Blackburn.

In a post shared on social media, the Council said that its Housing Needs Service has no involvement in any proposals to change the current accommodation provision at the hotel.

It also confirmed that the authority has not been informed by Serco of any plans to repurpose the site for asylum or refugee accommodation.

A Council spokesperson said that, as with all hostel-style accommodation across the borough, residents are supported to move on to more suitable housing when appropriate, and this also applies to residents of the Islington Hotel.

The statement added:

“We kindly ask residents not to share unverified information, as this can cause unnecessary concern within the community. Please help by sharing only accurate facts.”

The Council thanked residents for helping to ensure that information shared locally remains factual and reliable.
