For some it would be a hair-raising experience, but Becky Barton and her daughter Katy Barton, both from Darwen, are not daunted at the prospect of losing their hair to raise funds for charity.
Becky, the Cleaning Supervisor at Blackburn Market, and her daughter Katy are having their heads shaved to raise money for Dementia UK. The charity provides specialist support for families facing dementia and operate the Admiral Nurse scheme.
They were inspired to raise funds for the charity after losing Becky’s grandfather, Clifford Cunliffe, nearly three years ago after a long battle with dementia.
Becky told us: “We both wanted to do something positive to support people living with Dementia after losing my grandfather to the disease and we have been overwhelmed with the support so far. We’ve already received donations and sponsorship of over £1000.
“A work colleague has volunteered to shave our heads and Katy is just hoping enough will have grown back before she starts college again in September.
“It would be great if people can come along on the day to support us.”
