In a video message recorded on behalf of Blackburn with Darwen Council, the Mayor offers warm greetings to everyone celebrating Eid this week, reflecting on the spirit of the season and the borough’s vibrant community.
“Eid is such a special time for many local families, and I hope everyone who is celebrating enjoys this time together,” he said.
The Mayor also acknowledged the significance of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting, prayer and reflection that precedes Eid.
“Of course, Muslims around the world have been observing Ramadan for the last month. This is a very special time too and, as Mayor, I’ve been in the privileged position to attend many Ramadan events,” he shared.
He went on to praise the generosity and community spirit shown across Blackburn with Darwen during the holy month.
“It’s been wonderful to see lots of individuals and local organisations using this time of year for charitable efforts, raising money for important causes that support people – both locally and further afield.”
Councillor Taylor highlighted the welcoming nature of the Iftars he attended – evening meals shared to break the daily fast during Ramadan – and spoke of the importance of unity and cultural understanding.
“I’ve seen many people from across our borough’s diverse communities coming together, to share food and learn more about other cultures. I know that many people have been doing this informally with their friends and colleagues too.
“It’s these moments of togetherness, compassion and understanding that make me proud to be a part of the diverse community we have in the borough.”
