In a statement, the College said: “It is with regret that Myerscough College confirms that, following a period of consultation, the decision has been made to close the College’s Witton campus.”
The Witton site has long served as a hub for education and training in the borough. The decision to shut the campus follows what the College describes as detailed efforts to explore alternatives, including working with Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council to assess “all viable options.”
The College thanked staff for their efforts and acknowledged the impact of the closure, describing the site as one that “means [a lot] to students, staff, and the wider community.”
Students currently based at Witton will be supported through a transition plan, which includes options to continue their studies at Myerscough’s main campus or other suitable locations, depending on their individual preferences.
Myerscough emphasised that the wellbeing of students had been at the heart of discussions, adding: “Our shared priority remains to minimise any disruption to their learning while seeking opportunities to support and enrich their overall experience.”
While the closure marks the end of a chapter for the Witton centre, the College says it remains “steadfast in [its] commitment to the future of education and skills development in the Borough and wider East Lancashire.”
The statement concludes with a message of thanks to students, staff, and the wider community “for their patience, understanding, and continued support.”
