Excitement builds as Martin Roscoe Launches Ribble Valley International Piano Week at Westholme School on May 9th

Now a regular and hotly anticipated event in the Northwest classical music calendar, Martin Roscoe’s Launch concert for RVIPW (in association with Westholme School) will delight the audience with a fabulous evening of piano music – he will perform pieces by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Liszt and Dohnanyi. Plus in his role as Artistic Director he will give fascinating insights to the performances and musicians he has booked for the RVIPW summer festival (11th – 14th July). There will be a chance to purchase Martin’s latest CD’s of works by Beethoven, Dohnanyi and Elgar, and there will also be “early bird” ticket offers on sale for anyone coming to multiple events in July.

Martin will share news of the world-class musicians he has invited to Blackburn, including pianists Noriko Ogawa and Leon McCawley and violinist Jennifer Pike. Plus there will be some really exciting young performers he has selected from his many encounters with talented youngsters.  17 year old BBC Young Musician of the Year 2019 Lauren Zhang joins the lineup, and there is even a Festival First – an orchestral performance in collaboration with Blackburn Symphony Orchestra at which Martin himself will play one of Gershwin’s most popular pieces, Rhapsody In Blue.

Festival Chair, Marianne Bailey says “Once again Martin has put together a fabulous programme of piano music for our launch event on May 9th, and it is always interesting to hear him talk about the background to his programming decisions for the main festival during the evening. We know RVIPW is dear to many people’s hearts and we have a mouth-watering selection of concerts to announce at the launch which are sure to entice both our traditional audience but are also designed to attract youngsters to come along too. One of my main objectives as Chair is to encourage children to participate in and enjoy live music, so we have a special children’s event on July 14th. Anyone who is learning an instrument, from age 6 – 60 will love this event. Plus of course Lauren Zhang is an inspiration to all piano players, young and old alike. Come along and hear all about it on May 9th!”
