Housed in a former 1930s Co-op emporium, the central library was officially opened in 1975 by Prime Minister Harold Wilson and is one of the most visited libraries in England. It offers a wide range of services: lending, reference, children’s and community history collections, free Wi-Fi and computers, printing and photocopying, meeting rooms, learning courses, local-history resources, and accessible facilities.
