Join us at Darwen Library Theatre as snooker legend Steve Davis talks about his career and new-found hobbies. Discover for yourself that Steve is, contrary to popular belief, very interesting!
Steve became a household name in the 80’s with the explosion of snooker on television. Winning six world titles between 1981 and 1989, he became a ruthless opponent on the table due to his coolness in high-pressure situations.
His initial lack of emotional expression and monotonous interviewing style earned him the reputation of being ‘boring’, with the satirical television series Spitting Image giving him the ironic nickname, ‘interesting.’
Davis has now taken ownership of the joke. When he unveiled his waxwork at Madame Tussauds he said it was “probably more interesting me.”
“If everyone thinks I’m dull, I’m quite pleased actually,” he once said.
“If I’m seen as very friendly, then I have to be friendly all the time. If I am a bit unapproachable, it gives me breathing space.”
Despite his ‘boring’ reputation, Steve holds the record of finishing in the top three of BBC Sports Personality of the Year five times and winning in 1998.
Since his snooker heyday, Steve has been a contestant on I’m a Celebrity and has even taken up DJing, playing a set at Glastonbury Festival in 2016.
Come to Darwen Library Theatre this February to find out actually how interesting Steve is.
