This May, Blackburn Empire Theatre welcomes Blackburn Musical Theatre Company with Hello Dolly!
Matchmaker Dolly Levi has decided widowhood has palled and that her next client will be herself. Yonkers merchant Horace Vandergelder is to be her target.
In the course of a day that Horace spends in New York to look over the ladies on Dolly’s books (and march in a parade), the conniving lady manages to put him off everyone else, get herself treated to a flash dinner, and by the time they get back to Yonkers, the protesting Horace has been tamed into a proposal.
Also out on town that very same day are Vandergelder’s clerks, Cornelius and Barnaby. They spend half their day avoiding their boss, who turns up everywhere they go. But, they go home with the pretty pair of New York conquests on their arms and the prospect of less of a dogsbody future life.
All this, of course, is down to the ubiquitously interfering Dolly.
BMTC chairman and co-director, Gary Worthy, said: “Hello Dolly is an extremely exciting project for the society.
“It combines incredible musical numbers with an entertaining story line that will keep both our talented cast and loyal audience members happy.”
