The events will take place at 11am on Monday 23 June, just days ahead of National Armed Forces Day on Saturday 28 June.
Residents are invited to attend the short but meaningful ceremonies and stand alongside local dignitaries, veterans and representatives of the Royal British Legion as the ceremonial Armed Forces Day flags are proudly raised.
Where and Who’s Attending?
At Blackburn Town Hall, the Deputy Mayor Councillor Mahfooz Hussain will attend alongside Deputy Lieutenant Khalid Saifullah, who will present the ceremonial flag.
Over in Darwen, the Mayor Councillor Jacquie Slater will be joined by Deputy Lieutenant Travis Frain and members of the local Armed Forces community.
Councillor Slater said:
“I feel very proud to have a role in this celebration of our servicemen and women.
Having two sons who have served in the armed forces, I’ve seen firsthand the sacrifices they make. Theirs is the ultimate public service.”
A Chance to Say Thank You
Councillor Phil Riley, Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council, added:
“It’s important for us to show our support to all members of the Armed Forces community for their dedication and service to our country.”
The events form part of a wider national tribute involving more than 400 councils across the UK.
Why It Matters
Armed Forces Day – held each year on the final Saturday of June – is a chance for the nation to say thank you to our forces. That includes serving troops, reservists, veterans, cadets and their families.
Whether you have personal connections to the Armed Forces or simply want to show your respect, these ceremonies offer a great way to get involved.
