A popular pub in Darwen, The Crown and Thistle, on Roman Road, announced it would be closing its doors on Saturday 23rd July.
The pub, which is a popular stop for dining, drinking and some amazing desserts amounted its closure on Facebook on Friday 22nd July.
The owners, who also run a bakery on Blackburn Road in Darwen, confirmed the bakery will remain open.
Announcing the closure they said:
“End of an era.
“On Saturday 23rd of July, The Crown & Thistle will be closing it’s doors for the final time. Julie, Mo and all the staff would like to thank everyone for their friendship and custom over the past 15 years. We look forward to seeing you all on the other side of a bar soon.”
Hundreds of people expressed their surprise and sadness that the pub would be closing.
They thanked everyone for their support:
“Thank you so much to everyone for your kind messages and again for your support. A few of you have asked about the bakery and we are pleased to say this will remain open! You can still get one of our fabulous Sunday roasts either to collect or for delivery.“
