The Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, Councillor Jacquie Slater, joined members of the Royal British Legion to open the official Poppy Appeal Hubs in The Mall, Blackburn, and Darwen Market.
Red poppies are now appearing across the borough, as volunteers encourage people to wear theirs with pride in remembrance of those who served and those who continue to serve today.
💬 How to get involved
At the Poppy Appeal Hubs, visitors can:
- Pick up and wear a poppy
- Make a donation
- Volunteer or become a branch member
- Learn more about the Royal British Legion
- Stop by for a chat and a brew with volunteers
The hubs stock a variety of official Royal British Legion merchandise, with every purchase and donation helping to fund the charity’s ongoing support for the Armed Forces community.
🗣️ Community leaders show support
Cllr Phil Riley, Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council, said:
“We know many people in the borough wish to show their support for the Armed Forces.
The opening of the Poppy Appeal Hubs in Blackburn and Darwen gives them the opportunity to make a donation and learn more about the vital work of the Royal British Legion.
As a Council, we’re very proud of our local branch and the contribution they make year after year.”
Neil Shorrock, Royal British Legion Blackburn Chair and Poppy Appeal Organiser, added:
“Every poppy worn shows that you care – a symbol of remembrance and respect for those who gave their lives and for those who continue to serve today.
The Poppy Appeal couldn’t run without our fantastic volunteers, and we’re always looking for more people to get involved. Together, we can ensure that every poppy helps make a difference.”
📅 How long does the appeal run?
This year’s Poppy Appeal will continue until Remembrance Day on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, when communities across the borough will gather to pause and honour all who served.
