Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council has carried out a late-night operation with Lancashire Police to check that taxi and private hire drivers are correctly licensed and using safe, properly signed vehicles.

The Council said its licensing team worked alongside officers last Friday night to stop and inspect vehicles across the borough.

In total, 20 vehicles were stopped and inspected, with nine of those licensed by Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council.

As a result of the checks, the Council issued penalty points to five drivers. The issues identified included drivers not wearing their driver badges and vehicles not displaying the correct private hire signage.

Lancashire Police also issued two traffic offence reports during the operation.

The Council said the joint work forms part of its ongoing commitment to maintaining standards in the taxi and private hire trade and ensuring public safety.
